LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The Clark County School District could go nearly a whole school year without an appointed superintendent as the district and its search firm considers pushing the search back into early 2025.

The search firm, Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates — also known as HYA — will give a presentation at Thursday’s Board of Trustees meeting with a recommendation to push back the search for the district’s leader. The firm said potential candidates are concerned about the instability of the board during the hiring process, including the recent resignation of District B Trustee Katie Williams. Williams was accused of living out of state while serving the board.

“The instability of the Board is a recurring theme in our recruitment conversations, particularly the fact that there will be three to four new Board members come January 2025, a mere two months after the appointment of the next Superintendent,” HYA said in its board presentation. “Candidates are ‘interviewing’ the Board as much as the trustees are interviewing the candidates. Candidates are concerned that the newly elected board (potentially 3-4 members) would not have been part of the superintendent selection decision making process.”

The search firm gave three different options for delaying the search, along with stating that the Board could reject a delay altogether and still aim for a late-October selection. The delay options include:

  • Option 1: Selection of Supt. on Feb. 13, 2025
  • Option 2: Selection of Supt on March 27, 2025
  • Option 3: Selection of Supt on April 14, 2025

HYA also said each option factors in recruitment of quality candidates and time for the newly-elected Board for orientation and governance training.

The Clark County School District said their deputy superintendent of business administration and chief financial officer is “no longer serving.”

Along with the Board vacancy, CCSD also announced Thursday that its Chief Financial Officer Jason Goudie was “no longer serving” the district after allegations of a budget crisis.

The meeting is set for next Thursday, Sept. 26 at 5 p.m. In this same meeting, the Board is set to discuss a timeline for filling the Williams’ vacancy.
