LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A new plan the Clark County School District submitted to the Nevada Department of Education outlines steps the district says it’ll take to get its budget back on track.
This comes after the state stepped in, following a nearly $11 million budget shortfall.
Governor Joe Lombardo and the Nevada Department of Education reviewed CCSD’s budget issues. In November, State Superintendent Jhone Ebert issued a notice of noncompliance, along with a request for a Plan of Corrective Action.
The Nevada Department of Education sent FOX5 a copy of the Plan of Corrective Action, which they say was submitted to them by CCSD.
It identifies three “root causes,” including there being a lack of accountability, monitoring, and protocols with their previous budget.
Then, it outlines about 30 “action steps” including:
- Developing and providing professional learning for principals on school budget requirements
- Recruiting both internal and external candidates to hire a premane chief financial officer, which they hope to have completed by April 2025
- Creating a system to analyze all active and potential claims against the district, and preparing for the maximum liability impact to their budget
CCSD Interim Superintendent Brenda Larsen-Mitchell also submitted a letter. It could be read in full below.
Neither CCSD nor the Governor’s Office responded to FOX5’s request for comment.
