LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – As of Wednesday, Clark County School District bus drivers have officially began practicing their routes for the upcoming school year.
The District’s Interim Executive Director of Transportation, Amber Rideout, says they’re starting this school year with less bus driver vacancies than last- down from 80 to around 50 as of Wednesday.
She credits this to increased recruiting efforts, and starting their job fairs earlier than they did last year.
As for the 50 open positions, they’re looking for people 21 or older with a drivers license and a clean background.
She says if those spots are not filled before school starts on Monday, members of their office staff with a commercial drivers license will step in to help.
Ahead of the first day, she’s encouraging families to make sure their children know how to get to and from their bus stops, and that they have something in their possession to identify their correct stop.
“Kids are excited, sometimes they might miss their stop, sometimes they might get on the wrong bus coming home, that information really helps the driver to get that student back to the right location,” Rideout says.
She says if that happens, parents can call the department of transportation: 702-799-8100.
