LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Clark County will host its second annual Three Kings Day celebration on Saturday, Jan. 4, at the Clark County Government Center.
It will feature a massive Rosca de Reyes, live music, and a community fair.
The county is the first government agency in the Las Vegas Valley to celebrate the holiday, also known as Dia de Los Reyes Magos, which marks the end of the Christmas season and commemorates the arrival of the Wise Men.
At the heart of the celebration is the Rosca de Reyes or King’s Cake, a ring-shaped pastry symbolizing the crown of the Wise Men. Families traditionally cut the Rosca together, with one person finding a hidden figurine representing baby Jesus.
“So for kids that get that baby doll inside the kings cake, they’re going to have the chance to grab a toy,” said Public Information Officer Yazmin Beltran. “If you don’t get the baby doll, then you’re going to be able to enter into a raffle.”
In addition to the Rosca, the event will feature a resource fair, live music, and gifts for the first 250 children.
Beltran said the event aims to fill a gap in the community.
“This is the first time that a government agency does something like this. So, we wanted to bring that to the community, to the Hispanic community, in the community in general,” said Beltran. “We wanted to bring something, something new and something unique as well.”
The event is free and open to the public. Doors open at 10 a.m. at the government center, located at 500 S. Grand Central Parkway.
