Could a special session happen for the Nevada Legislature? FOX5 asks state leaders

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — After a number of high-profile pieces of legislation did not make it out of the Nevada Legislature, this session, FOX5 has asked state leaders if a special session could be called.

After 11th-hour delays in the Senate, a number of bills failed to make it to the floor with any vote—including Governor Joe Lombardo’s crime bill and the high-profile film bill to provide tax credits for Summerlin Studios, backed by Warner Bros. and Sony Pictures.

FOX5 has learned from state officials that various discussions have occurred; it’s up to the Governor to determine the agenda for the special session, but negotiations can occur with leadership in the Legislature to address other pressing issues.

FOX5 obtained the following statement from the Governor’s Office:

In the meantime, collaboration continues between Warner Bros. Discovery and UNLV to train film students; a group of students were selected for six-week internships at WB Headquarters.

“Learning everything we can, seeing all these opportunities that didn’t know existed before. I think we made a spreadsheet of everyone we met and it was literally over 150 people,” said film student Jericho Andaya.

Students toured and shadowed experts in various departments from studio operations, production sound and video services, to production rentals and even special effects.

These students hope to work in Nevada’s growing film industry.
