LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Korea Town Plaza is preparing for its largest event of the year — a Lunar New Year celebration Saturday, marking the Year of the Fire Horse — while also looking ahead to longer-term improvements through a Clark County grant.

The Spring Mountain Corridor Improvement Grant has been doubled from $750,000 to $1.5 million. The plaza is among the businesses applying for funds to make safety and beautification upgrades that would extend well beyond the holiday season.

Safety and beautification plans

Korea Town Plaza Property Manager Rachel Park said the plaza wants to use the grant to improve both the look and security of the space.

“So all the small businesses — we need help all the time… we can grow together, we can improve, and we can get people to have better business here,” Park said.

Planned improvements include new LED lighting for safety and walkability, outdoor seating areas, parking lot striping and traditional Korean design elements aimed at making the space more welcoming.

Park said the plaza also wants to expand its visibility to newer Las Vegas residents.

“We really want to spread our word more because we know a lot of people know there is a Koreatown Plaza, but we are still growing — Las Vegas is growing so fast, so new people, they don’t know,” Park said.

Security a key focus

Korea Town Plaza is seeking funding for eight security cameras with 360-degree views. This comes as car break-ins have been reported in the area.

Metro has increased visibility and patrols in parking lots along the Chinatown corridor over the last several years.

Grant demand exceeds expectations

Clark County Commissioner Justin Jones and his team have been at Korea Town Plaza helping businesses navigate the application process. Since applications opened in mid-February, the county has received about 80 submissions — more than anticipated.

“Which is really exciting — that’s really gonna give us the opportunity to give out more grants and higher grants to people in this corridor,” Jones said.

Eligible improvements under the grant include security upgrades, lighting, cameras, landscaping and art installations.

“That could be security upgrades… lighting… cameras… that could be landscape upgrades… art installations — whatever upgrades your property along Spring Mountain,” Jones said.

The application deadline has extended until April 15, 2026.
