LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Was the deadly attack in New Orleans on a crowd out celebrating the New Year connected to the Cybertruck explosion here in Las Vegas just hours later?

Was the Cybertruck explosion also an act of terrorism?

Both President Joe Biden and Metro Sheriff Kevin McMahill addressed the possible ties between the two incidents during news conferences on New Year’s Day and possible ties to terrorism. An ISIS flag was reportedly flying on the back of the pickup truck that ran into the New Orleans crowd out celebrating on Bourbon Street.

“The FBI has reported to me the killer was an American citizen born in Texas. He served in the United States Army on active duty for many years… Mere hours before the attack, he posted videos on social media indicating that he’s inspired by ISIS,” reported President Biden.

The truck rented by Shamsud-Din Jabbar, reportedly from Turo the same car rental app used to rent the Cybertruck driven to Vegas.

Sheriff McMahill explained during a news conference, “We do know who rented the truck. We are looking at that individual, but I am not prepared to release the name of any of the individuals that we are looking at.”

Sherrif McMahill says there is no immediate evidence of terrorism. The Cybertruck was rented in Colorado before it was driven to Las Vegas. They are investigating if the Trump Hotel was targeted and a Cybertruck used for political reasons.

“Well it is a Tesla truck and we know that Elon Musk is working with President-Elect Trump and it is the Trump Tower so obviously there are things to be concerned about,” McMahill asserted.

Sheriff McMahill said though he believes this was an isolated incident, law enforcement will remain on heightened alert and staffing will remain at New Year’s Eve levels over the next two days with more than 1,000 officers ready to respond in case of any copycat type of attack.
