LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The sheriff of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said a Cybertruck’s exterior prevented further damage after it exploded in front of Trump hotel.

Kevin McMahill said a Cybertruck pulled into the valet area of the Trump International Hotel on Las Vegas Blvd at around 8:40 a.m. Wednesday morning.

It exploded roughly 20 seconds later.

McMahill said investigators discovered through city installed license plate readers that the Cybertruck entered the Las Vegas area about an hour before the explosion. It drove up and down Las Vegas Boulevard before pulling into the Trump Hotel valet area.

Once firefighters smothered the fire and got it out, investigators found gas cannisters and fireworks inside the truck. McMahill pointed out much of the Cybertruck’s exterior was in tact.

“The fact that this was a Cybertruck really limited the damage that occurred inside of the valet,” Sheriff McMahill added.

He said that’s because most of the blast went up through the truck and out, rather than through the sides, keeping the glass doors of the Trump Hotel from shattering too.

“The front glass doors of the Trump Hotel were not even broke by the blast,” Sheriff McMahill continued.

One person, the driver, was inside the truck when it exploded and died. Metro police is not releasing who that driver was yet.
