LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Court documents reveal details of central valley domestic dispute that led to a deadly shooting.
On De. 7, 2024 around 1:12 p.m. Las Vegas Metro police responded to reports of a male who was shot in the 1900 block of D Street.
Elida and 36-year-old Paul Burkhart were shot and taken to the hospital. Elida suffered a gunshot wound to her upper left arm. Paul had about 5 gunshot wounds. He later died.
According to court documents Elida asked her sons to clean leaves from the front yard.
Later in the evening Paul began arguing with the boys while explaining how he wanted the leaves collected. When Elida heard screaming from the front yard she rushed to separate Paul from the boys.
According to witnesses Elida was thrown down by Paul. Elida stated she had previous domestic problems with Paul as he struggled with alcohol and substance abuse.
Paul was standing between 18-year-old Steven Bernard and Elida when Steven fired his gun at Paul.
Steven reportedly went into the home to collect multiple firearms and ran out of the house. He then escaped in a Dodge Avenger.
Police report, as Steven walked away from the home, he can be heard saying “don’t touch my mom homie.”
The report confirmed Steven is one of Elida’s children and Paul’s stepson.
Frankie told police he knew that his brother Steven owned an AR style gun, but did not believe he had any other guns.
A warrant was issued for Steven’s arrest on Dec. 8.
According to Clark County Jail records Steven was arrested on Dec. 12.
He has a hearing set for Jan. 22, 2025.
