LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Floyd Lamb Park is celebrating a special new arrival.
A Peafowl chick was born for the first time in over three years.
Peahens have lived in the park at Tule Springs for longer than 80 years. They were part of the working ranch that sat on the property back in the 40s.
The flock had been in decline in recent years. Only five males live in the area.
However, members of the community hatched a plan to help.
“On April 20, we got our first peahens donated, and they are roaming the park right now,” said Janna Hudson, facility and events coordinator with Las Vegas Parks and Recreation. “On June 36 and 27, we got more donated peahens, and those have already had chicks that were born earlier this year.”
The park now has 11 peachicks.
Parks and Recreation tells FOX5 the Peafowl have long been an attraction for the park and they were concerned the birds would not repopulate.
