LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — North Las Vegas police have arrested the driver accused of hitting a pedestrian and fleeing the scene Wednesday evening, officials report.

According to NLVPD, officers responded to the collision on Griword Street near Las Vegas Boulevard and Pecos around 6 p.m.

Police report a woman was crossing the road near the marked crosswalk when she was struck. The victim was located with injuries and later died on the scene.

Officials say the driver who initially fled the scene returned and turned himself in to police. The driver was arrested and faces charges including reckless driving resulting in death, failure to yield to a pedestrian, and leaving the scene of an accident.

The Clark County Coroner’s office is expected to release the identity of the pedestrian.
