LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A 33-year-old woman died at the hospital after a pickup truck driver allegedly ran a red light, police say.

Las Vegas Metro Police said the crash occurred Thursday at 5:16 p.m. at Rancho Drive and Decatur Boulevard. Police say the driver of the pickup truck was 37-year-old Angel Franco Merida. In the truck was also a 14-year-old passenger.

Police say the driver traveled southbound on Rancho approaching Decatur. The pedestrian was waiting to cross at a marked crosswalk eastbound, according to police.

A crash happened when the truck driver allegedly did not stop at a red and hit the pedestrian when she started walking across the street.

Medical arrived and transported the woman to UMC Trauma where she later died. Merida stayed at the scene and did not show signs of impairment, police say. Officers booked him into the Clark County Detention Center for a felony reckless driving charge.

“The pedestrian’s death marks the 81st traffic-related fatality in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s jurisdiction for 2025,” police say. “The collision remains under investigation by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s Collision Investigation Section.”
