LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A pedestrian is fighting for his life after being struck and injured by a van in downtown Las Vegas on Friday.

Around 2:33 p.m., the collision occurred at the intersection of South Fremont Street and a private drive located south of Atlantic Street. An initial investigation revealed that a 2020 Ram Promaster Van was turning left from the private drive onto southbound Fremont, while a pedestrian was crossing Fremont inside a marked crosswalk.

The van failed to yield to the pedestrian and struck him, knocking him onto the road. Arriving medical crews transported the 60-year-old man to UMC Trauma, where he remains in critical condition.

The van driver remained at the scene and displayed signs of impairment. 54-year-old Jose Ramos-Chavez was placed under arrest on DUI-related charges.

The collision remains under investigation.
