LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – FOX5 obtained a police report for a man accused of driving impaired and causing a multi-vehicle crash.
The crash happened Monday around 10:44 p.m. at the intersection of Boulder Highway and Desert Inn.
36-year-old Carlos Adan Alvarez is accused of driving impaired, speeding and running a red light. He drove a Ford F-150.
Police said Alvarez sped southbound on Lamb Boulevard and ran a red light, striking an Elantra driving southbound on Boulder Highway.
The two passengers in the Elantra have critical injuries and are being treated at Sunrise Hospital. When the Elantra was hit, it caused the vehicle to hit other cars stopped at a red light in the eastbound lanes of Desert Inn.
A total of 5 people were sent to the hospital that night.
When police arrived at the scene, they found the pickup truck lying on its side. According to a report, officers freed Alvarez from the vehicle.
Officers noted a strong odor “of a substance” coming from Alvarez’s body and breath. He also had bloodshot, watery eyes.
During a conversation with officers, Alvarez told police he stopped drinking for medication he was taking. He also admitted to police that he did not recall the moments driving up to the intersection and the crash.
The report says he refused a blood test. Because of injuries to his wrist and ankle, no other tests could be performed. He was sent to Sunrise Hospital for treatment and would then be booked into the Clark County Detention Center.
He faces one count of reckless driving resulting in death or substantial bodily harm, DUI and failure to stop at a red traffic light.
He is due back in court Jan. 14 at 8 a.m. He has not posted bail, according to court documents.
