LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A 63-year-old man is facing a DUI charge – among others – after hitting and killing a pedestrian in North Las Vegas on Monday night.
According to the North Las Vegas Police Department, the collision occurred around 8 p.m. in the 2600 block of North Las Vegas Boulevard. It was determined that the crash involved a Hyundai Sonata and a pedestrian.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the pedestrian, identified as a female in her 30s, was crossing the roadway outside a marked crosswalk. At the same time, the Sonata was traveling northbound on Las Vegas Boulevard.
Police say the collision occurred when the pedestrian attempted to cross the roadway and the Sonata struck her. The pedestrian was transported to UMC Trauma Hospital, where she would later be pronounced dead.
Speed and impairment are suspected to be factors in the crash, according to NLVPD.
The driver of the Sonata – identified as Timmy Cormier – was arrested and booked into the North Las Vegas Community Center. He is facing charges of DUI resulting in death, possession of a controlled substance, and intoxicated person in possession of a firearm.
The investigation into this crash is ongoing.
