LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Las Vegas police say a suspect ‘took’ a bus, ran a red light and hit a motorcyclist in west Las Vegas Wednesday night.

Officials with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said the incident started at 6:30 p.m. in North Las Vegas at 211 W. Judson Avenue, near N. 5th Street and E. Lake Mead Boulevard. Police said a Salvation Army bus was “taken” from the area. Police say they are still investigating this incident.

North Las Vegas police started a pursuit as a passenger was reported to be on board. Metro Police said the bus drove through the valley recklessly and “sustained tire failures.”

Police say the pursuit stopped when it was confirmed that no passenger was on board. The bus was being watched by an Air Unit with LVMPD. The bus ran a red light at Tropicana Avenue and Grand Canyon Drive, hitting a motorcyclist. Police say the rider died at the scene.

Police say the suspect tried to flee on foot, but was later taken into custody by North Las Vegas and Metro Police.

North Las Vegas Police and Metro say they will continue the investigation. Tropicana Avenue and Grand Canyon is closed in all directions.
