LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Nevada State Police said a bicyclist didn’t obey a stop sign, causing a fatal crash west of Las Vegas.
The crash happened Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Kellogg Road and Squaw Valley Road in Pahrump, about 62 miles from west Las Vegas.
Police said a Volvo driver traveled eastbound on Kellogg, approaching Squaw Valley. At the same moment, a rider of an electric bicycle did not obey a stop sign at the intersection.
Police said the Volvo’s front hit the bicyclist despite an effort to avoid the rider.
The driver would flee, but police were able to find them at a private residence in Pahrump. The driver was taken into custody for fleeing the scene of a deadly crash.
Police identified the driver as Jesus Eulajo Espinoza, a 42-year-old from Pahrump. He died at the scene.
The investigation is being conducted by the Nevada State Police Highway Patrol – Traffic Homicide Unit. 2024 Year to date: The Nevada State Police Highway Patrol Southern Command has investigated 73 fatal crashes resulting in 81 fatalities.
