LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Construction for the Las Vegas Grand Prix is causing traffic delays one month before the November races as crews are transforming the Strip into a racetrack.
Track barriers installation on Koval is underway, closing two lanes overnight this week from the F1 pits to the Sphere. The construction is part of preparations for the race scheduled for November 20-22.
Metal structures for F1 track lighting are now visible along the Strip where cars will race. Three lanes will close at midnight Monday through Friday for the rest of the month as crews work on track lights.
In front of the Bellagio, two traffic lanes are closed 24 hours a day as the Bellagio Fountain Club structure is completed. The sidewalk is also off-limits to pedestrians.
Tommy James from Alabama said the construction impacts the tourist experience.
“Not great for the tourists. You can’t see the fountains, and all the construction,” James explained to FOX5.
Visitors can see an obscured version of the fountain show from across the street through the glass and seats of the temporary F1 building.
Aida Juarez from San Antonio, Texas, expressed disappointment with the blocked views all along the resort corridor.
“It’s a lot of cover-up, and that’s just kind of sad,” Juarez shared.
F1 has created a website to help drivers navigate traffic impacts before, during, and after the races. The site is updated weekly and allows users to customize routes and view day and night closures. For updated information, drivers can visit transportation.f1lasvegasgp.com or sign up for SMS notifications by texting “F1LV” to “31996” to receive twice-weekly text summaries.
