LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Clark County issued a “Trop dust” advisory Tuesday afternoon, as the Strip prepares to send off one of its most iconic hotels.

The advisory pertains to early Wednesday morning when the Tropicana will be imploded to make way for the new A’s ballpark. The implosion will take place around 2:30 a.m., following a firework and drone spectacular.

Demolition experts say the implosion is expected to last 22 seconds, but county officials say the dust may linger for much longer.

The implosion is expected to produce a cloud of “Trop dust” that may hang around the area for a few hours. However, the dust is not expected to stay longer than 24 hours.

“The dust cloud will be heaviest near the implosion site and will likely dissipate as moves eastward,” said Paul Fransioli, senior air quality specialist with the Division of Air Quality.

People will heart or lung diseases, seniors, and children are advised to limit outdoor exposure and keep windows and doors closed throughout the day.

FOX5 is giving up-close, in-depth coverage of the Tropicana’s legacy and demolition starting tomorrow at 2 a.m.
