LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The heat is here, and officials are urging residents across the valley to take proper precautions to avoid serious heat-related illness.
Local health officials warn that when the first hot days arrive, people are more vulnerable to heat-related illnesses such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke, especially older adults, young children, and those with underlying health conditions.

With temperatures expected to soar this week, residents are urged to take precautions by staying well-hydrated, limiting strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day, and seeking out air-conditioned spaces or shaded areas whenever possible.
Climate records show the earliest 90-degree day on record occurred on March 13, 2007, while the average first 90-degree day typically doesn’t arrive until April 15.
This week’s heat, arriving ahead of schedule, underscores the importance of planning ahead and treating early warm spells with the same caution as midsummer heat waves.
