LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A Las Vegas Valley High School changed their mascot after a trademark deal has ended with an Arizona university.
Arizona State University said that they terminated a licensing agreement with Eldorado High School because of “several violations of the agreement by the Clark County School District.”
ASU said that the violations consist of “modifiying, using and altering logos outside the licensing agreement without getting prior approval, as directed in the agreement.”
CCSD provided the following statement to FOX5:
Eldorado High School already rebranded. According to the football team’s website, they renamed to the Firehawks.
“After 50 years of being the ‘Sundevils,’ the team at Arizona State University decided to terminate the agreement our school had to use the same logo and mascot, which lead to a full rebranding of the school,” Eldorado said. “The process was lengthy and included input from the students, staff, alumni and the surrounding community, who have come together to rally around the FIREHAWKS as they rise form the ashes of the Sundevil!”
