LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A man acting “crazy” was shot inside an apartment after charging toward it, Las Vegas police say.
The shooting happened at an apartment complex located in the 8300 block of West Charleston Boulevard near Cimarron. However, the incident started at the 1100 block of Warbonnet Way, just east of the apartment complex.
Police said a Black man who was wearing no shoes acted “erratic” near Warbonnet Way. Summerlin police were dispatched, but he fled the area before police could arrive.
The man fled toward the Charleston apartment complex. Police say the man was laying down and making sound but was not making sense. He started to jiggle door handles of the apartments.
Occupants of one upstairs unit noticed the man and walked down the stairs to approach him. The subject pulled his shirt over his head and charged at them. The occupants would run back up the stairs and he tried to get in.
At some point, someone inside the unit noticed a mother with two kids exiting their apartment. Police said they again exited their unit to warn the family, however, the man reappeared and charged at the unit.
Police said someone was armed and shot the subject when he entered.
The same officers who responded to the scene at Warbonnet Way were called to the Charleston apartments. When they entered the unit, they found the same subject reported at the previous location with a gunshot wound.
Police provided aid until medical arrived. He was transported him to UMC Hospital where he later died.
Lt. Jason Johansson said no other suspects are outstanding and the person who shot him is cooperating with investigators.
This is a developing story. Check back later for updates.
