Evidence in Las Vegas Strip shooting case will be preserved for review

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Evidence that was set to be destroyed in the case against a content creator accused of killing two people on the Las Vegas Strip will now be preserved.

Manuel Ruiz, 41, a content creator accused of killing Arizona-based content creator Rodney Finley and his wife, Tanisha, on June 8, appeared in court Thursday. A judge ordered that evidence held by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department be sent to defense attorneys for review rather than be destroyed.

Attorneys said the evidence includes video and photographs, which do not depict anything related to the shooting.

Ruiz turned himself in to police on June 9. Investigators said he claimed the shooting was in self-defense. Police said Ruiz and Finley were previously involved in a conflict over social media before the shooting. The incident was apparently captured on a livestream.

Ruiz is scheduled to appear in court again on Nov. 6.
