LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A landmark decision from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is paving the way for construction to begin on the Las Vegas Executive Airport.
The FAA has officially approved the proposed private use airport approximately 31 miles west of Harry Reid International Airport.
A document from the FAA says the airport is anticipated to accommodate single and multi-engine and roto craft operations. It also states the single runway airport is expected to begin construction in the next six months.
According to a news release a groundbreaking for the Las Vegas Executive Airport is anticipated to commence in three months.
Robert Lauer, CEO of the Las Vegas Spaceport says, “The FAA’s approval is a monumental step forward for the Las Vegas Executive Airport and the broader vision of the Las Vegas Spaceport. We are energized by the support we’ve received and are eager to continue this journey. This is a major step toward creating a space economy that will lead to thousands of high-paying jobs in our community, our county, and our state.”
The Clark County Commission last month unanimously approved the project.
In addition to the FAA’s approval, the project has secured $10 million in pledges from investors. The project will need another $20 million to meet the first-round funding goal.
Plans for the spaceport include a hotel, passenger terminal, and rooftop observation deck and restaurant, aiming to attract millions of tourists annually and redefine the visitor experience.
It will also hold a post-high school STEM academy with space vehicle simulators.
