LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The family of a retired police chief who was killed while riding a bicycle in Las Vegas has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Hyundai.
According to an arrest report, Las Vegas Metropolitan police say suspects Jesus Ayala and Jzamir Keys drove in a stolen Hyundai Elantra that killed Andreas “Andy” Probst. The incident happened Aug. 14, 2023. When officers arrived, Probst was taken to University Medical Center Trauma, where he later died.
The lawsuit sues Hyundai for wrongful death and negligence and also names the suspects for battery and wrongful death.
Probst’s family says the suspects were able to steal the vehicle using techniques shared on social media, referred to as the “TikTok method,” to steal Hyundais.
The family also said Hyundai chose to sell the vehicles without anti-theft protections in place.
