LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – In a bizarre story in a remote location off the Las Vegas Freeway, FOX5 was told hundreds of chickens have been stolen from a family farm.

Las Vegas Livestock says only four are left, and employees are left in disbelief as their minds quickly go from predators doing this to realizing they were the easy prey. Take it from Farm Manager, Sarah Stallard.

“We figured there would be some evidence, but there was literally nothing,” Stallard said. “No feathers, hens, no chickens!”

That was the most surprising part for Stallard since a social media post from Las Vegas Livestock states 250 chickens were taken overnight Friday. Stallard says the new normal might take some time for the remaining hens to get used to.

“They are pretty social animals. They’re probably a little freaked out,” Stallard said.

Las Vegas Livestock workers say they were freaked out enough to file a police report and are going over any security footage they may have. She tells FOX5 they will be filing that report in person on Monday.

Here’s why Stallard thinks the birds were stolen, and that it was someone familiar with the property, as they entered from the back to avoid the gate check-in.

“It’s much harder to get to and not many people would know that you could unless they were more familiar with the farm,” Stallard said.

That’s what has this seventh-generation farmer upset, since they give regular tours of the property.

“I’m sorry if I get emotional, but I feel like we do a lot for our community and we like to open our doors and do everything that we can and so it’s hard to think that somebody that we let on here with good intentions and a good heart came and decided to do this to us and take something that we care for and are very proud of and take it away,” Stallard said. “Now we don’t know like where they are and we’re just worried about them.”

At this point, it’s unclear who took the chickens, but Stallard says if your neighbor suddenly has a large flock, or if you see someone selling a bunch of chickens, please reach out to Las Vegas Livestock. For more contact information, click here.
