LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Las Vegas is gearing up to be the center of entertainment, sports and conventions.

As we go from one big event to the next, these events are planned from every angle, including the safety of our city.

The FBI tells FOX5 they are well prepared because they have set up a command post within their building to have a team assigned at all times to handle the big events in our city.

They had their command post running on Election Day.

As eyes were one who would lead our nation next, the FBI had their eyes on something else.

“A few things that came through were a white powder letter scare that we had that was coming from another field office that worked that event,” Jeremy Schwartz, acting special agent in charge said.

Though that white powder letter was received by another FBI office, Schwartz tells FOX5 their headquarters in Washington D.C. are able to give them a heads up if they believed a similar letter was on it’s way to Las Vegas.

“We quickly make contact with our local partners such as the United States Postal Service we give them a heads up on what’s going on and we set up our own unit with our own entities those who are familiar with weapons of mass destruction to be there to receive that letter,” Schwartz said.

In their Election Day command post, it was all hands on deck and it will be a similar game plan for Formula One but with the help of local partners at their Fusion Center.

Schwartz said their headquarters will also monitor any possible threats and address it then send it to Schwartz and his team.

Schwartz said last year when there was a man hole that popped and paused the race, it sparked online threats globally.

“When we have a command post up and running like that and can quickly identify the source and where they are coming from and whether or not they have the means to carry out the attacks,” Schwartz said.

In addition to their command post, and Fusion Center, the FBI will also have bomb technicians nearby the race tracks and there will also be under cover agents mixed in with the crowds.
