LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Las Vegas resident Flava Flav is bringing women Olympic athletes to the Strip for a celebration weekend in July after his social media invitation gained widespread support.
The event, called “She Got Game,” will take place from July 16 to 19 and is sponsored by MGM. What started as an invitation to the women’s hockey team expanded to include all women medalists and Olympians.
“He did not expect it was going to get this big,” said reporter Jaclyn Schultz.
Flava Flav, who previously sponsored women’s water polo and the skeleton and bobsled teams for the recent Olympics, posted the invitation after a video showed President Trump inviting the men’s hockey team to visit him.
“Flava Flav said, ‘Let me invite the women’s team to Las Vegas,’” Schultz said.
He then expanded the invitation to all women gold medalists, medalists and Olympians.
MGM steps up as sponsor
The response prompted MGM to sponsor the event. Schultz said Flava Flav wanted 100 rooms on the Las Vegas Strip to host the athletes.
“He said MGM stepped up,” Schultz said, adding that Flava Flav will release names of other official sponsors soon.

Flava Flav messaged Schultz to clarify that MGM is the sole sponsor after multiple companies across the valley expressed interest in helping.
Networking and sponsorship opportunities
The weekend will feature special events and meet-and-greets for athletes and fans. Athletes will have opportunities to meet potential sponsors and companies.
“A lot of these athletes, especially the women’s athletes who don’t get a lot of notoriety or sponsorship, they are living, as one Olympian said to me who lives in Las Vegas, a lot of athletes are below the poverty line,” Schultz said.
Many athletes work to pay bills and cover equipment and travel costs to the Olympics out of their own pockets.
“They just want to help these women get paid,” Schultz said.
Summer and winter Olympians expected
Athletes from both the Summer and Winter Olympics have expressed interest in attending.
“I’ve heard from Olympians from the Summer Olympics. They’re like, ‘This sounds fun. Let’s all come out, too,’” Schultz said.
The event coincides with NBA Summer League, which runs the same weekend.
“You’re going to have hundreds to thousands of NBA and basketball players. You’re going to have all these Olympians,” Schultz said.
The GIST, a women’s sports website, is helping organize the event.
Clark County officials said they would consider a parade on the Strip for the Olympians, similar to celebrations held for the Las Vegas Aces and Vegas Golden Knights.
“The county told me, ‘We don’t see why not,’” Schultz said.
Supporting underrepresented athletes
Flava Flav has championed women’s sports over the past two Olympic cycles.
“He is such a supporter of underrepresented people,” Schultz said. “He firmly believes in representing people, minority groups who don’t get the spotlight, but for whom it’s much deserved.”
Schultz said Flava Flav wants to show that women athletes should be household names.
“He says, ‘We should be in the stands with our gear, cheering on Team USA, cheering on these athletes. They should be household names, too,’” Schultz said.
One Olympian told Schultz that athletes train hard and party hard.
“Watch out, Vegas,” Schultz said.
