CARSON CITY, Nev. (KOLO) – Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford has filed for a preliminary injunction seeking to halt President Trump’s executive order on federal elections.

Trump signed the order in March. The order, in part, would include requiring documentary proof of citizenship to be able to vote in federal elections. The suit immediately brought legal action against it, including from Nevada.

Ford joined a coalition with 19 other AGs in filing for the injunction, calling it unconstitutional, anti-democratic and un-American.

“This executive order is an attack on democracy and on the sovereignty of Nevada and every other state,” said AG Ford. The president does not have the power to regulate elections — as such, this executive order is nothing more than an attempt at an illegal power grab. I co-led this lawsuit because I cannot let this attempt stand. Nevada’s elections are free, fair and safe, and the president cannot illegally interfere with our states’ legal responsibilities for political gamesmanship.”
