CARSON CITY, Nev. (KOLO) – Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford is joining a coalition with 13 other Attorneys General to defend healthcare access for DACA recipients.

Their motion comes as Ford expects the incoming Trump administration to halt federal efforts to legally defend efforts allowing them to receive healthcare.

“Health insurance access is important for individual quality of life and for the wellbeing of Nevada as a whole,” said AG Ford. “Stripping this access from Dreamers, who, in most cases, know no other home than our great country, is dangerous, un-American and cruel. We must do right by the members of our community, and that Is why I am seeking to intervene in this action.”

Last year, the Biden administration expanded healthcare access to DACA recipients by making them eligible to purchase health insurance through ACA exchanges. States then sued Health and Human Services and Medicare Services in August 2024, asking for a delay. The District Court for North Dakota prevented the expansion from taking effect in some states but allowed the final rule to remain in place in Nevada.

Wednesday’s motion says that because it is expected that Trump will no longer defend the rule, the Attorneys General must do so in the place of the federal government, claiming a right to do so.

The states of New Jersey, Arizona, California, Colorado, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, New Mexico, Oregon, and Vermont also joined the filing.
