LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Cybercriminals always look for untraceable ways to commit their crimes.
That’s why they’ll often ask for gift cards, cryptocurrency, or wire transfers as payment.
Now, they’re going for the gold.
AARP warns gold bars are the latest choice for scammers. They will impersonate law enforcement or bank employees and alert to an active hack.
Then, they will advise to protect accounts by withdrawing it all and buying gold bars to protect funds. They even offer to send a courier to pick up the gold bars “for safe keeping.”
It’s happened across the country with some victims losing their entire savings.
Those who get a call like this should hang up and call the bank or law enforcement agency at a legitimate number to confirm.
Verification usually offers the best protection from getting ripped off.
