LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — It’s typically never a good idea to ignore a summons for jury duty. However, it’s always wise to ignore text messages demanding fines for your failure to appear.

Law enforcement nationwide reports issues with calls and text messages threatening arrest and prosecution for potential jurors who failed to report. The caller or sender will assess that fine and insist on immediate payment. They’ll likely want it made with either prepaid debit cards, gift cards, or cryptocurrency.

While failure to appear for jury duty is against the law here in Nevada, law enforcement or the courts will never contact you about via text or phone call. A jury summons will only arrive via traditional paper mail. Also, the courts do not ask for or accept uncommon currencies like crypto.
