LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Ahead of the upcoming school year, a Las Vegas Valley nonprofit is working to provide student-athletes a chance to get a critical health screening.
Vegas Has a Heart is providing free heart screening for student-athletes Sunday, Aug. 4. The event is planned from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the College of Southern Nevada’s North Las Vegas Campus.
“Shockingly, one in 300 youth has an undetected heart condition, and sudden cardiac disease remains the leading cause of death among student athletes,” said Meesha Moulton, community-driven attorney and founder of Meesha Moulton Law. “Our goal with our upcoming heart screening drive is to conduct comprehensive evaluations for local student athletes to detect any hidden cardiac issues early on. These screenings are essential for ensuring that youth in our community can participate in sports with confidence and safety. By identifying potential risks, we can offer necessary interventions that will safeguard our children’s future.”
The nonprofit says students should pre-register online for an appointment. Walk-ins are said to be accommodated on a first-come, first-serve basis. It’s open for students ages 10 to 25. For more information, visit this website.
The goal of the event is to detect and prevent cardiovascular issues that could lead to a sudden cardiac arrest.
Vegas Has a Heart partnered with Meesha Moulton Law Partners for the event.
