LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Las Vegas Athletic Clubs identified one of their own as the victim of Friday’s deadly shooting.
According to their post, Edgar Quinonez, was a part of the LVAC family for 15 years. Monday, FOX5 is hearing from other members of the LVAC family who say it won’t be the same without him.
From housekeeper to manager, it is evident from interviews with co-workers and friends that in 15 years, Quinonez touched the lives of many.
“He genuinely cared about peoples’ lives. He remembered details about people that nobody else would,” said co-worker Joey Chantarasakha.
Chantarasakha was at the front desk with Quinonez when the shooting happened.
“He sacrificed himself to keep everybody else alive. I will forever be grateful for that,” he said.
Julian Foutch, who’d known Quinonez since middle school, said he visited LVAC over the weekend to process the loss of his friend.
“He just cares. He’s the guy who cares,” Foutch said. “He was always out on the floor helping people out.”
Another friend, Seven Steffani, said Quinonez would greet him with a smile at LVAC every week for years.
“He was my guy. I love that kid. He’s like a son,” Steffani said.
FOX5 joined Steffani as he returned to a somber gym Monday morning. Instead of being greeted with a smile, a makeshift memorial for Quinonez grew by the gym’s front doors.
“It’s going to be tough,” Steffani said. “He’s a guy you don’t want to miss.”
Christina Cornell said she worked with Quinonez at two LVAC locations throughout the years, describing him as a great person to be around. She said the LVAC family is in disbelief that something so violent could happen to one of their own.
“This is not just a gym, this is a family,” Cornell said. “I’m sending out my prayers and condolences to not only Edgar’s family, but the rest of the victims and anybody who was in the gym that day.”
LVAC’s post reads, Quinonez “was a source of kindness, dedication and positivity. His presence touched the lives of so many members and teammates, and his impact will never be forgotten.”
