LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Community leaders from Chinatown need crucial input from one demographic to determine changes and growth over the next 20 years: Generation Z.

FOX5 has told you about Inspiring Spring Mountain, the second phase of public surveys, and the efforts to get community and business input for the real solutions to parking, congestion and safety issues. Earlier this year, Chinatown was finally approved to become a “redevelopment area”: some property tax dollars can be diverted to fund improvements.

Many of the visitors to the area are younger adults, driven by “viral” eats, new restaurants and locations featured on TikTok and Instagram. These locations have lines out the door from droves of customers- and limited parking in the area.

“By engaging the youth and young people today, they will ultimately be a lot of main consumer base and decision makers for our city and the way that we improve Chinatown in the next 20 years,” said Minjia Yan with the Inspiring Spring Mountain project.

The project set up a booth throughout the Dream Asia Food Festival, and got hundreds of attendees to participate. At surveys across Chinatown, many business owners and long-time community members took time to weigh in.

Yan said many younger locals and customers want free parking, shuttles from the Strip to Chinatown to avoid parking and congestion, and also more events in the area.
