LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Robin Lehner will not be reporting to training camp for his fifth and final year with the Vegas Golden Knights.
Vegas Golden Knights General Manager Kelly McCrimmon addressed the situation in a press conference Thursday morning, where he also discussed the team’s rookies and training camp setup.
“Robin (Lehner) will not be reporting to the club this year, he continues to be unfit to play,” McCrimmon stated. “There are unique circumstances surrounding this situation that the NHL, NHLPA, and club are currently working through.”
The Daily Faceoff reported Wednesday that Lehner failed to show up to a mandatory pre-season medical exam, and did not report to the Knights to confirm his ineligibility for this season. The report added that the team is reviewing its options, which may include contract termination.
Lehner has been on injured reserve for the past two seasons due to hip and shoulder surgeries and has not played in the NHL since April 2022. He is in the final year of a 5-year, $25 million contract, and is still owed $4.5 million for this season.
“Collectively we are assessing our next steps,” McCrimmon told reporters. “When we have more to say, we will and nothing further until then.”
