LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Governor Joe Lombardo is announcing new steps to protect Nevada’s Jewish community after recent antisemitic attacks around the world.

Thursday, the governor sent a letter to the Nevada Sheriffs’ and Chiefs’ Association calling on increased awareness, preparedness and cooperation between state and local authorities. He’s asking law enforcement agencies to maintain a visible presence and stay alert around synagogues, Jewish community centers and schools.

He’s also putting together an antisemitism working group to address the growing threat of antisemitism.

Earlier this week, Metro police told FOX5 they plan to increase their presence around places of worship in the wake of the deadly antisemitic attack in Australia. A rabbi at Chabad of Southern Nevada also told FOX5 several agencies, including the Clark County Sheriff’s Office called to offer support and extra patrols.
