LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Governor Joe Lombardo is expected to authorize the Nevada National Guard to assist U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), a spokesperson confirmed Friday.
The Governor’s Office told FOX5 that Lombardo is “in the process of authorizing” the arrangement, which will be fully federally funded. A spokesperson added that the Guard will be working in a “temporary and administrative” capacity, which involves processing detainees.
Back in December, Lombardo and 25 other Republican governors signed a joint statement that said they stand ready to utilize state law enforcement or the National Guard to support President Donald Trump’s mission to deport individuals who pose a threat to the U.S. The National Guard has been deployed to support ICE in five other states, including Louisiana, Texas, Virginia, Georgia, and Florida.
FOX5 has reached out to ICE and the Nevada National Guard for additional comment.
