LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Eighteen days after a cyberattack shuttered services statewide for residents, Gov. Joe Lombardo is set to speak and address the remaining issues with Nevada’s infrastructure as recovery continues.

The attack was “ransomware-based,” according to state officials. Although investigators believed some data was taken from state servers, on Sept. 4 Lombardo said there was no evidence that state financial data was compromised during the attack.

On Sept. 5, the Nevada DMV said its operations had returned to normal. Customers reported that first-time IDs and upgrades for driver’s licenses, identification cards or instruction permits were still unavailable at that time, which officials acknowledged. Walk-ins were being accepted for those with canceled appointments for two weeks following the outage.

Lombardo previously noted that a typical recovery timeline for a cyberattack could span weeks to months, and added that Nevada’s recovery was outpacing that projection.

There had previously been no information on suspects or a motive in the cyberattack that disrupted state services for the better part of two weeks.
