OROVILLE, California (KOLO) – The man who police say shot two kindergarteners at a religious school in northern California had previously lived in Carson City and had been convicted of aggravated identity theft.
Then 47-year-old Glenn Litton of Carson City was sentenced to two years in prison in November 2015.
During a Thursday press conference, the Butte County Sheriff’s Office said Litton was mentally ill and believed by targeting children he was carrying out “countermeasures” in response to America’s involvement in Middle East violence.
Court documents show that on Nov. 19, 2014, Litton submitted an application for a U.S. passport to a passport acceptance officer in Sacramento, California. In the application, Litton used the identity of another person, including their name, birthday, and social security number.
Litton also presented supporting documents like a birth certificate, a debit card, and an employment ID bearing the name of a person whose identity he had assumed. Litton was consequently issued a U.S. passport in a false name.
