LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A man is fighting to keep his family’s racing legacy alive after his race car and trailer were stolen in North Las Vegas on Thursday evening.
Trevor Sneva says his family has a long history of racing.
His grandfather faced in the 1950s, and his father and uncle both raced in the Indy 500. His uncle, Tom Sneva, won the race in 1983.
“A long history of racing, and I’m just trying to keep it alive,” Trevor says.
Trevor and his “Sneva Racing” team raced in the Open Wheel Showdown at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway last month. He drove a black Wing Sprint race car with the number 64 painted on the sides.
“That was my grandpa’s number, so that was the family number,” Trevor says.
He says he was storing the car inside a white trailer with “Sneva Racing” written on the sides. It was parked outside a friend’s garage near Craig Road and the I-15, while the truck that tows the trailer was undergoing repairs.
Only FOX5 has surveillance video from a nearby business that captures the theft in action. Video shows a white pickup truck backing up to the trailer Thursday evening, before pulling out with the trailer attached about 15 minutes later.
According to a North Las Vegas Police report, officers found cut locks lying on the ground.
“It’s pretty gut-wrenching,” Trevor says. “To be really honest, if we don’t recover it, I might be done.”
North Las Vegas Police say at this time there is no suspect information available, but they are urging anyone with information to call the department at 702-633-9111. To remain anonymous, community members can contact Crime Stoppers of Nevada at 702-385-5555 or online.
