LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Las Vegas police homicide lieutenant Jason Johansson announced his retirement on FOX5’s Behind the Badge Thursday morning.
Lt. Johansson has served the Las Vegas Valley for the past 24 years and will be stepping down at the end of the month.
“We’re getting to that time where it’s time to transition over and have someone else take over the reins,” he shared. “And so I made the decision with my family, and will be retired at the end of the year.”
Lt. Johansson also shared that Lt. Robert Price will be taking over the department following his retirement.
“The Homicide Section is on 24/7 and no matter when the calls come in, you’re going to all of them. After COVID, it was a very busy assignment and has continued to be up until today,” he said.
As a Las Vegas native, Lt. Johansson says the community inspired him to build pride in his work and drove him forward during dark days.
Lt. Johansson says some significant moments in his career include the Robert Telles case and the UNLV campus shooting.
“It showed me that our section was prepared for any type of challenge that you could throw at us, and we’re capable of putting together the case in a rapid fashion,” he said.
