LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Las Vegas Metro Police search and rescue teams rescued a stranded hiker from Red Rock Canyon Friday afternoon.

According to an Instagram post, the crew responded to Gateway Canyon around 2 p.m. to rescue a ledged-out hiker. A passerby called 911 after hearing the hiker calling for help up on the ridgeline.

A helicopter was requested at the scene, due to the rugged terrain and the hiker being stuck 400 feet above the trail.

Two officers were inserted above the victim’s location, and with a lowering system, officers were able to make contact with the uninjured hiker.

The hiker was picked up off the ledge and hoisted by the helicopter, which then took them to the BLM Fire Station.
