HENDERSON, Nev. (FOX5) — The Henderson City Council approved a new 10-year plan for the city’s park and recreation during a Tuesday meeting.
According to a release, the “Parks and Recreation Make It Possible” plan is a decade-long roadmap guiding the future of the city’s parks, trails, recreation facilities and outdoor programs based on community feedback. It evaluates existing facilities and services, reviews demographic trends and identifies opportunities to expand and improve recreation programs and amenities.

Community priorities were organized into five goals with more than 100 action items for the next decade. City officials say the goals focus on sustainability, financial opportunities, organizational efficiencies, program and service delivery, and affordability and access to facilities and amenities.
“From neighborhood parks and recreation centers to sports, trails and programs for all ages, parks and recreation help make it possible for residents to stay active, connect with their community and experience the high quality of life that makes Henderson such a special place to live,” said Henderson Mayor Michelle Romero.
Henderson’s parks and recreation system currently supports community health, quality of life and the local economy through the following:
- Manages 77 parks, eight recreation centers, 105 athletic fields and more than 300 miles of trails
- Serves more than 470,000 meals annually to Henderson seniors and children through community programs
- Hosted 4,944 sports tournaments over the past two years, generating an estimated $108 million in economic impact
- Supports higher property values, with studies showing homes near parks can increase in value by 8 to 10 percent
- Added more than 60 parks through strategic partnerships at no cost to taxpayers, creating hundreds of millions of dollars in park assets for the Henderson community
Development of the master plan included stakeholder interviews, focus groups, community meetings, presentations to boards and commissions and a statistically valid community survey.
