LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Henderson City Councilwoman Carrie Cox appeared in court Tuesday Morning, where she entered a plea after she was indicted for secretly recording a conversation involving a colleague.
Councilwoman Cox pleaded not guilty and waived her right to a speedy trial. The judge set the trial date to begin on Oct. 19, 2026.
This comes a day after Henderson City Council members voted to censure Cox following the indictment.
The censure is a formal statement of disapproval. While it would not remove Cox from the City Council, she would no longer be allowed to serve on any boards or commissions as a city representative. She would also have to limit her conversations with colleagues to the city manager, city attorney, or city clerk. One of them will also facilitate her communications during meetings and briefings.
Cox was indicted by a grand jury earlier this month on a single felony charge of using a mechanical device, electronic or other listening device to monitor private conversations. She is accused of recording a private conversation of fellow councilmember Monica Larson, who was speaking with realtors.
If convicted, Cox could face up to four years in prison and a maximum $5,000 fine.
