LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A Henderson non-profit is hoping for help during the holidays. They say after other local organizations closed food pantries in the area, they have been fighting to keep up with demand.
HopeLink helps thousands of people in the Vegas Valley each year, especially families and seniors living below the poverty line. Sometimes those who receive come back to give.
One donor says in the past HopeLink saved Christmas for her family.
“This is a really cool place that actually helps people…back in like 2010 my cousin was a client of theirs, basically needed a Christmas for her and her five girls and I was the one that lived closer to here. So, I came in and I grabbed everything that they offered her. It was an entire meal, and it was presents for the girls,” recounted Amanda Munoz while dropping off a box of diapers. Munoz is now a regular donor.
“This is our food pantry right here. This is where we serve a lot of our community,” explained Patricia Kelly, Director of Client Services at the HopeLink Center for Children and Families in Henderson, as she gave FOX5 a tour. Kelly said the charity works with Three Square to make sure the selves are stocked.
“We want to make sure we have it available and ready to go for our community,” Kelly shared. That’s been a challenge with increased demand but is especially important during the holidays.
“HopeLink has seen an uptick…We try to make sure that we accommodate that as much as we can,” Kelly contended.
“A couple weeks ago, I donated a Thanksgiving dinner, and they told me they told me that their pantry was completely empty. I was like, ‘No. This is not happening,’” Munoz recalled.
Munoz is now making it her holiday mission to ensure HopeLink is getting the help they need, to help those in the community most in need.
“I am just trying to collect as much food as possible so that everyone who needs a meal this holiday gets one,” Munoz revealed.
Munoz told FOX5 she will come pick up donations from you if you want to give.
