LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Henderson neighbors say a recent re-paving in their neighborhood was left unfinished.
David Donovan has lived in his Henderson neighborhood, near Boulder Highway and Sunset, for decades.
He says he’s been waiting for the roads to be repaved for years.
Donovan said, he was excited to hear that they would finally see a face lift.
“I was like finally, ‘finally,’ I couldn’t believe it almost, because we were hoeing weeds out of the street, there were so many cracks in it that the weeds were growing out of the street,” Donovan expressed.
He says his excitement quickly faded when he walked outside to find a giant gap in the asphalt after neighbors seemingly ignored the notices to move their cars, and the city paved around them.
This is not the only spot in Donovan’s neighborhood where this happened. After only a couple of minutes of searching, FOX5 found two additional areas where parked cars were paved around.
According to social media comments, this has also happened in other Las Vegas neighborhoods.
“There should be a precursor, where you go through and check out the neighborhood to make sure it’s ready for slurry, and if there’s cars in the way and it’s not ready for slurry, tow them off,” Donovan said.
A Spokesperson for the City of Henderson said in a statement that homeowners get multiple notices to move their cars before a re-paving: one five days before and another 24 hours before.
They say if they’re not moved, they’ll pave around them.
Within a month, they’ll come back to pave the missed areas.
If the cars are still not moved at that point, they’ll try for a third time and then eventually call the police to have the cars towed.

“Homeowners are provided a written notice five days before the beginning of slurry seal work to inform them of limited access, and that there will be no on-street parking, and another notice 24 hours prior to work beginning along with “No Parking” signs. If vehicles are not moved, contractors will slurry around them. Within a month, the contractor will make a second attempt to slurry the missed areas, with five-day and 24-hour notices posted again. If vehicles still have not been moved, the contractor will make a third attempt and contact the police department to have vehicles towed to complete the slurry.”
