LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The Henderson Police Department is launching a new campaign to protect older adults from scams.

The initiative called “Stop Fraud” coincides with International Fraud Awareness Week. The campaign highlights real cases, including scammers impersonating FBI or Treasury agents, pressuring victims to withdraw thousands of dollars.

In one case, HPD stepped in before $72,000 was lost. Officers say education and early reporting are key.

As part of the “Stop Fraud” campaign, the department will host two senior fraud prevention classes. The sessions are scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 16 at 6 p.m. and Saturday, Jan. 17, at noon at the West Henderson Police Station.

The classes aim to help seniors spot the most common scams, including romance fraud, phishing, tech support scams, identity theft, and schemes involving government agency impersonators and cryptocurrency fraud.

Those looking for more information could visit the City of Henderson’s website to watch the PSA, download brochures, and access fraud prevention information. Seniors and caregivers are encouraged to report suspected scams to the Henderson Police Department at (702) 267-4750 or visit the FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center at IC3.gov.
