LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5)—The Henderson Police Department is leading a new initiative for victims.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

The Department is now stocking each patrol car with a strangulation resource kit.

HPD says patrol officers are the first responders to domestic violence calls, and the kits will allow them to identify internal injuries that may not be visible externally.

The Department says since strangulation is so dangerous, it’s important to have a safe way to document it.

“We want victims to still monitor their symptoms,” said Lindsay Vukanovich, a public information officer for Henderson Police.

The kit is also available in Spanish.

“This particular sheet that we leave with them, they’re able to do that and can take that directly to a doctor later on,” police added.

If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, The Henderson Police Department has a Victim/Witness Advocate program.
