LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Members of the Henderson Police Officers Association and Henderson Supervisors Association finished a day and half of mediation over contracts with a city.
Sources tell FOX5 it went “horribly” and now they head to arbitration over contracts. Arbitration is where a third party that is neutral will help both parties come to an agreement.
The mediation involved city officials, members of both unions and Henderson Police Department’s newest chief Reggie Rader, according to sources involved.
Nevada Association of Public Safety Officers sent FOX5 the following statement:
Both the Henderson Police Officers Association and the Henderson Police Supervisors Association are disappointed with the City of Henderson’s failure to value the individual men and women who protect the city. While City leaders consistently accept praise for the safe environment that the police insure, City leaders steadfastly refuse to negotiate a fair contract with the police. The City of Henderson’s proposals at mediation this week were tantamount to defunding the police. While the unions support the new Police Chief, we believe that the City’s actions will undermine his ambitious plans for the department. Both unions plan to aggressively pursue all legal avenues to force the City to negotiate an appropriate contract while they continue to provide exceptional service to the citizens of the City.
Contract negations have been in the works for a couple of months now.
Back in June the city of Henderson and the unions declared an impasse. FOX5 has reported officers within the city of Henderson Police Department are among the lowest paid in Southern Nevada.
Both unions are expected to address the media Wednesday.
FOX5 has reached out to the city of Henderson for comment, but have yet to hear back.
FOX5 has also asked the city multiple times to sit down with Chief Rader for an interview, but they have not made him available to us.
